As one author aptly put it, "If prayer isn’t vital for your church, then your church isn’t vital. This statement may be bold, but I believe it’s true. If you can accomplish your church’s mission without daily, passionate prayer, then your mission is insufficient and your church is irrelevant." Ourchurch's mission is humanly impossible, but we serve an Almighty God for whom all things are possible. Our only hope of accomplishing this mission rests in God's ability to do what is impossible for us. Because we are completely dependent on Him, we regularly seek His intervention. Our physical separation poses challenges for gathering during the week, but Zoom enables us to overcome this obstacle and unite more regularly in prayer.
Praying Together During the Week
In addition to praying together on Sundays and using our Prayer App to share requests, smaller groups gather twice a week in the morning for communal prayer. Like our Sunday morning gatherings, one of our pastors typically prepares prayer requests in advance. During our meetings, we take turns praying for particular requests. You're welcome to participate by praying aloud or following along in your heart. You are free to join while multitasking as well, like getting ready for the day, making breakfast, or commuting to work. The prayer meetings can be joined via video conference on your computer or mobile device, or dial-in from your phone. Feel free to join us for the entire meeting or for the part that you're available.
Praying for Members and Ministries
We lift up a variety of prayers during our Morning Prayer Meetings, but generally focus on CCC’s members and ministries. Our prayers include petitioning God to work powerfully within our church community, conforming us to the image of Christ. At the beginning of the week, we often center our prayers around Sunday's sermon, seeking growth in obedience to God’s Word. We also pray for our church's ministries, especially our college campus ministry and efforts to protect the pre-born. Sometimes we pray for specific individuals and situations we encounter in our local mission work, lifting up requests shared through our Prayer App. Our prayers occasionally extend to broader issues, embracing the Bay Area, our nation, and the world. Similar to Sunday Prayer, we incorporate prayers from church history, joining with believers across generations and deepening our knowledge of the church's legacy.
